WordPress: Beyond the Basics (WP-ADV)
When you are ready to really “own” the power and versatility that WordPress has to offer, then you’ll want to take this workshop. There are a vast number of free and low cost features available to customize your website… WordPress allows you to change color schemes & page layouts; add calendars, contact forms & multi-media sections, include e-commerce tools, create social media links and much, much more!
In this workshop you will learn how to: Find and install WordPress “Themes” to customize the overall look and feel of your website; Use “Plugins” to add a wide range of functionality to your pages; Adapt “Widgets” to manage the content placement on your site; Work with “Shortcode” to easily embed elements into your pages; and other tricks & techniques to make your site unique and interesting to your viewers.
You will work online on an actual WordPress website, (your own or a practice one we will set up for you) so that you can get real experience using and manipulating these tools. By the end of the class, you will have a very strong understanding of the wide range of options that are open to you in customizing your site.
Since this is an advanced class, it is essential that you are thoroughly familiar with the skills in the “Getting Started with WordPress” class, and have a good understanding of the topics covered in the “Maintaining and Updating WordPress Websites” class as well. You will need a laptop computer with wireless internet capability. This class is limited to 8 participants to ensure plenty of individual attention. Class length is 3.5 hours and tuition is $55. Pre-registration is required.
